Small trees or shrubs; plants non-succulent; leaves, simple, altenate to opposite; flowers solitary, bisexual, regular, cyclic; perigynous, sepals/calyx lobes 5,6,7+, tubular; petals/ corolla lobes 5–8, petals clawed to sessile; stamens numerous; the ovary is positioned inferior and consists of many carpels which are adnate to the receptacle; fruit, fleshy, indehiscent, a berry.
